Hosting

Nocturnal Web Design is now able to host the websites we create. However there are two important points:

• Hosting is only available through our Web Design service; it is not offered as a separate entity.
• We still cannot register your domain; you will have to register it through another company. Of course once it's registered we can still use it for the hosted website.

If you prefer, you can have a subdomain of http://clients.nocturnalwebdesign.co.uk/ (e.g. http://example.clients.nocturnalwebdesign.co.uk) as an alternative to your own domain name. It is free, but buying your own domain name would give a slighly more professional appearance.

There are also a number of extra 3rd Party Services avaialble to you when we host the website.

Hosting Plans

Definitions

• Bandwidth Limit - This is the amount of data you are allowed to transfer each month. To put it in perspective: 5 GB per month works out as 168 MB per day; the whole of Nocturnal Web Design is around 2.1 MB; this means that the entire of this site could be downloaded about 80 times per day on a 168 MB limit.
• Strict - If you exceed the Bandwidth Limit on a "Strict" plan, the server will automatically throttle data transfer. The limit is applied per day (i.e. a 168 MB daily limit for a 5 GB monthly allowance). If the limit is passed, futher connections are refused until the next day.
• Lenient - If you exceed the Bandwidth Limit on a "Lenient" plan, I will get in touch to try to work something out. This may involve paying for the extra data.
• Data Storage - Since I create and maintain the website, a data storage limit is not relevant.
• Mailboxes/Mail Forwarding - This refers to the limit on the number of mailboxes/mail forwarding, and it is "within reason" (for example: 10 is fine, 100 might be OK, 1000 is pushing it, and 1,000,000 is out of the question). This limit does not apply if emails are handled by another server (e.g. if you want Google Apps configured for your domain).
• Customer Access - Given the nature of our hosting setup, it is not possible to provide unique login details for each customer. Therefore all changes to the hosting/email configuration will have to go through me. However, changes to the hosting/email configuration are included in the annual price and will incur no individual charge.
• Subdomain - This is a subdomain of http://clients.nocturnalwebdesign.co.uk/ (e.g. http://example.clients.nocturnalwebdesign.co.uk) and is an alternative to your own domain name. It is free, but buying your own domain name would give a slighly more professional appearance.

Extras

If you choose to have us host your website, you can also choose the following extras. Full details can be found on their respective websites. The price for implementing each one is the same as for the other 3rd Party Services in the Packages section, and all of them require a Database (but they do not count as Data Entry).

• phpBB Forum - A popular forum system. It can be used for discussion, as a source of technical support, or anything else for which you could use a forum.
• Content Management Systems - (What?) We have a number of CMSs available, including Joomla and Drupal.
• WordPress - A state-of-the-art publishing platform, and popular choice for blogs.
